Zürich S-Bahn

The Zürich S-Bahn (German: S-Bahn Zürich) system is a network of rail lines within the ZVV area (geographically, within the entire canton of Zürich and minor outlying areas such as Rapperswil).

To say that the entire network went into operation in May 1990 would be misleading, for all lines were intact even before then. However, in May 1990, what did happen was that the rail lines affiliated with the ZVV became part of the of ZVV network.

The S-Bahn network is numbered, but numbering is rather sporadic, with several missing lines (e.g. S11, S20). The lines are numbered from the S1 to the S43.

• S1: Zürich Main Station – Thalwil – Zug
• S2: Effretikon – Zürich Airport – Zürich Main Station – Ziegelbrücke
• S3: Dietikon – Zürich Main Station – Effretikon – Wetzikon
• S4: Zürich Main Station – Adliswil – Sihlbrugg
• S5: Rafz/Niederweningen [1] – Zürich Main Station – Uster – Pfäffikon SZ
• S6: Baden – Regensdorf – Zürich Main Station/Uetikon [2]
• S7: Winterthur – Kloten – Zürich Main Station – Meilen – Rapperswil
• S8: Winterthur – Wallisellen – Zürich Main Station – Pfäffikon SZ
• S9: Zug – Affoltern am Albis – Zürich Main Station – Uster
• S10: Zürich Main Station – Uetliberg
• S12: Brugg AG – Zürich Main Station – Winterthur – Seuzach/Winterthur Seen [3]
• S13: Wädenswil – Einsiedeln
• S14: Zürich Main Station – Wallisellen – Uster – Wetzikon – Hinwil
• S16: Effretikon – Zürich Airport – Zürich Main Station – Herrliberg-Feldmeilen/Meilen/Rapperswil [2]
• S17: Dietikon – Bremgarten – Wohlen
• S18: Zürich Stadelhofen – Forch – Esslingen

Previous lines in operation:

• An S31 used to exist. It used to run at least across the Seedamm, between Rapperswil and Pfäffikon SZ.
