Youngstown State University

Youngstown State University is a university located in Youngstown, Ohio. As of 2004, there were 12,698 students with a student-faculty ratio of 19:1. 11,375 of the students are undergraduates.

Statistics

Most students commute from surrounding areas, but approximately 1,000 students live in a residence hall on campus. Another 400 live in the University Courtyard apartment complexes just off of campus. About 13% of the student body is international students from 55 countries.

The University is comprised of the following colleges:

Athletics

YSU has been successful in NCAA athletics, and has won four Division I-AA national football championships. The women's basketball team has won five Mid-Continent Conference titles, and played the NCAA tournament three years. Their team nickname is the Penguins, and their mascot is "Pete", an anthropomorphized Emperor Penguin wearing a scarf, tossle cap, and scowling facial expression.
