X3 (movie)

X3 is the planned third film adaptation of the X-Men superhero comic books. The other movies were X-Men and X2. X3 is expected to be released in 2006.

The film will be helmed by director Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake). The director of the first two movies, Bryan Singer, will not be returning for this sequel, because he will be working on the new film adaption of Superman. It is not yet known which X-Men characters will appear in the movie, but the ending of X2 strongly hinted that Jean Grey would return reincarnated as the Phoenix.

X3 is planned for 2006 and shooting will begin in June 2005. Simon Kinberg has been hired to pen the script for a third X-Men film. There is a possibility of making two films back to back, following the example of the Matrix sequels. Expecting to return in the new movie are nearly everybody of the previous two movies. James Marsden (Cyclops) is confirmed for the cast, despite that there are scheduling conflicts with another upcoming movie. He said that he wants to be in and Simon Kinberg confirmed that Cyclops will take part if a bit smaller in the new movie. Surprisingly Kelly Hu, whose character Lady Deathstrike died in the second movie stated that she has a two-picture deal and will land a role too.

Halle Berry (Storm) is unconfirmed as a possible addition, as are Ray Park (Toad) and Tyler Mane (Sabertooth); Park stated that he originally made a two picture deal before shooting the first one. IGN announced that Angel will be among the new X-Men to appear in this film, and he will be a major character in the film. Beast is expected to be seen in his transformed part while Gambit is not expected to be a major character. Also ex-footballer-turned-actor Vinnie Jones reportedly is said to be in talks of landing a role for a big villain. Ain't-It-Cool-News reported later that Jones is up for the role of Cain "Juggernaut" Marko – Charles Xavier's stepbrother.
