What's up

(Redirected from Wuzzup)
For the 4-Non Blondes song, see What's Up (song)

What's up is an informal expression meaning "what are you doing", "how are you", or "what gives." It is often shortened to "sup," "wussup," "wutsup," or "wassup."

Wussup or wuzzup is also a commonly used AAVE term for what's up. It is unclear as to what the origin of the term is, but it's thought to be a phonetic transcription of what.

Among Hispanic gangs in California, including the Norteños and Sureños, the phrase "what's up" means "there's going to be a fight."

This expression was made very popular by the cartoon Bugs Bunny who used it as part of his catch phrase "What's up, Doc". It gained more notoriety when it was used in a series of beer commercials in the early 2000s.
