Wisden Cricketer of the Year

The Wisden Cricketers of the Year is an award given annually by the Wisden yearbook. Usually, five players are named each year, although this was not always the case in the early years – Jack Hobbs and W. G. Grace being among those to be honoured individually. Also, a player may receive the award only once in his career, although again this was not always the case in former years – Hobbs was named in both 1909 and 1926.

The award is based primarily, although not exclusively, on the players' 'influence on the previous English season'. From 2000 to 2003 the award was made based on all cricket around the world, but this ended in 2004 when the Wisden Leading Cricketer of the World award was introduced.
