wIRCd is a variation of an Internet Relay Chat Daemon. The prefix "w" signifies that it is specifically coded for a Microsoft Windows Operating System. Generally, most IRC servers are run off a Unix-based IRCD, as Windows-based variations tend to be unstable and loaded with superfluous features.
