Wings 3D is a free and open source polygon mesh modeler inspired by Nendo and Mirai from Izware.

Wings 3D is available for most platforms, including Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, using the Erlang environment.

Wings is best suited for modelling and texturing low-polygon meshes, which its interface is geared towards. When compared to other open-source modelling programs such as Blender, its GUI is minimalistic. Wings is more limited than other modelling programs in certain areas. For instance, Wings cannot handle animations, only comes with an OpenGL renderer, and becomes sluggish when processing models with an extremely high polygon count.

Even with these drawbacks, Wings has a fairly shallow learning curve, and a plug-in system. Though it lacks a powerful internal renderer, Wings can easily be combined with raytracing programs such as POV-Ray or Yafray to produce high-quality images.
