Polygonum convolvulus |
Wild Buckwheat (Polygonum convolvulus L.) is a annual weed of the Family Polygonaceae.
It is also known as Black Bindweed, Climbing Bindweed, and Corn Bindweed. Its European synonym is Bilderdykia convolvulus (L.) Dumont.
Its viny behaviour and spade-shaped leaves superficially resemble true bindweeds (genus Convolvulus). However, while Wild Buckwheat has ocrea (stipule-sheath at nodes), true bindweeds don't. In addition, Wild Buckwheat's flowers are much smaller, whereas true bindweeds have conspicuous flowers typical of morning-glories.
