Wikifiction
Wikifiction is a future extension to Wikipedia that uses Wiki technology to allow individuals to collaborate together to create large bodies of fiction.
What kind of works will users be able to contribute to thru Wikifiction?
Any creative work is automatically protected the moment it is transcribed. Since Wikifiction would store the original author's contribution as well as the contribution of each of the editors, it can be used to verify the validity of a copyright. The original author is also free to seek out a copyright license from a site such as creativecommons.org but it is expected that the copyright allows distribution of the work for noncommercial purposes provided that the author is credited for his or her contribution. It is also expected that the copyright allows for modifications to your work. Since all completed works of fictions will be the product of the efforts of hundreds to thousands of inviduals, it is generally expected that the majority of profits generated by any commercial use of the work of fiction is donated to charitable causes or that donatons go directly to Wikipedia.
Projects found on Wikifiction can take on numerous forms. They may be novels, short stories, poems, or scripts. They may stem from a basic story that is continuosly extended and revised to provide better character development, more intricate plotlines, or more interesting dialogue so that the completed product may only vaguely resemble the original. The projects may encourage editors to take on multiple arcs at each major plot juncture and link them together so that the completed works functions somewhat like a Choose Your Own Adventure novel. Or, the original creator may offer up a detailed script treatment that outlines the major events spaning the entire course of a television series, and editors may continously add to and revise the treatment until it becomes detailed enough to be used as a script to produce the series. While such projects may be daunting tasks for one individual to take on, thousands of individuals working together can produce a very polished work of fiction with far greater ease.
Will there be any type of copyright protection offered to individuals who submit ideas that could be used for commercial purposes?
That is an aspect of Wikidea that is still largely unexplored.

Is there any way I can participate in such a project now?
There is a test run of the project already underway. The project is a treatment for a television series that spans five seasons. Users are free to modify and add on it to create essentially a script for the series. The project is registered under an open licence so that all individuals are free to use it, modify it, and distribute it as they please for noncommercial purposes. In order to use the project for a commercial purpose, such as a producing company that wishes to create the television show, the company must first agree to donate 3/4th of all profits generated from the series to a charitable nonprofit organization that works to create stability and infrastructure in developing countries. Please refer to the discussion section of this article to participate in the creation of this work of fiction.
