White Star

The White Star was a medium-sized combat spacecraft employing a mix of Vorlon and Minbari technology featured on the TV series Babylon 5.

The White Star intentially does not resemble traditional neither Minbari nor Vorlon space craft, so that its identity could be kept secret.

"White Star" was actually a designation for a series of space craft, though initially there was only one, commanded by John Sheridan (in Season three of Babylon 5). Near the end of season 3, it was revealed that a first wave of 40–50 White Stars had entered duty. White Stars continued to be built and they were used extensively in the remaining seasons.

The White Star resembles a flying bird with out stretched wings. It had artificial gravity for the passengers, and moved through some sort of alcubierre drive that was achieved by manipulating superstrings. The White Star was the only star ship of its size that was used by younger race that was capable of generating a jump point. The hull of a White Star is made up of bio-mechanic material of Vorlon design wich gives it the ability to quickly heal any hull dammage it has sustained. This armor also has the capacity to adapt to enemy fire, meaning once a weapon's effect is "known" to the hull it will offer better protection against that weapon in the future (although better protection might not be the same as good protection depending on how powerfull a weapon is). Once a White Star has learned about a particular weapon, it can disperse the energy, leaving only the physical impact.

In the fifth season of Babylon 5, President Sheridan realized that there was a need for a destroyer class White Star. The governments of Earth and Minbar undertook a joint project to build such a destroyer. The result was the building of the Victory class destroyer – and the prototypes were complete five years after the events of the television series.
