What Goes On

"What Goes On" is a song by the legendary '60s rock group the Beatles, included on their album Rubber Soul. The song-writing credit is Lennon-McCartney-Starkey. The original form of the song was written by John Lennon for producer George Martin as a possible follow-up to "Please Please Me" in early 1963. The song wasn't used, though, until 1965, for the Rubber Soul album, for Ringo Starr's vocal piece on the album. A new middle section was written by both Paul McCartney and Starr, Starr's first ever composing credit on a Beatles song. However, when asked what his contribution to the song was in 1966, Starr said, "About five words."
