Western Allies

The western Allies was an alliance of democracies and their colonial peoples, within the broader coalition of Allies during World War II. The term is generally understood to refer to the countries of the Commonwealth of Nations (from 1939), exiled forces from Occupied Europe (from 1940), the United States (from 1941), and a few other countries. This term therefore excludes the Soviet Union and China, which were also Allies.

From 1942 onwards, the entire military forces of the western Allies were overseen by the U.S.-British Combined Chiefs of Staff, based in Washington D. C..
