He was also former master of the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 before they became the property of Luke Skywalker. Antilles died at the hands of Darth Vader after he failed to give information on the location of the Death Star plans. According to the X-Wing series of novels, he was not related to Wedge Antilles.

He appeared in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and its radio adaptation, though it was only in the radio version that he was mentioned by name. His name in the novelization of A New Hope was simply Captain Colton. He will appear in the upcoming Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, along with Captain Colton, as a separate character entirely.

Crynyd, Arvel

Arvel Crynyd was the leader of A-Wing Green Squadron during the Battle of Endor. Towards the end of the battle, his A-Wing was hit by Imperial fire and veered out of control, flying directly into the bridge of the Executor, killing Crynyd as well as Admiral Piett instantly. This caused the Executor to fly out of control and crash into the second Death Star, thus turning the tide at the Battle of Endor.

Darklighter, Biggs

Star Wars character
Biggs Darklighter
Species Human
Gender Male
Hair color Black
Eye color Brown
Home planet Tatooine
Affiliation Rebel Alliance
Film portrayer Garrick Hagon

Biggs Darklighter briefly appeared in the 1977 release of the original film. Biggs was in the Battle of Yavin scene, where he joined Luke Skywalker and Luke's other wingman, Wedge Antilles, in their attack run on the first Death Star. Biggs was killed when Darth Vader fired upon him while he was flanking Luke down the Death Star trench.

Biggs had a larger role in earlier drafts of the script for the movie and several of the additional scenes appeared in the novelisation. His additional scenes include a conversation with Luke on Tatooine where Biggs tells Luke of his secret desire to join the Rebel Alliance. This scene was deleted from A New Hope, but the book Inside the Worlds of the Star Wars Trilogy depicts the missing scene at Toshi Station. Biggs also showed up on Yavin 4 in the Rebel base hangar where he meets Luke in a surprise encounter, just before the rebel ships take off to attack the Death Star. Biggs assures the rebel flight leader that Luke can handle the X-Wing fighters and off they go. This scene was reintroduced in the 1997 re-release of the film.

Trivia Several games in the Final Fantasy series have a pair of minor characters named after Biggs and Wedge Antilles.

Despite his youth, Gavin quickly distinguished himself during the conquest of Coruscant and the liberation of Thyferra. He won the affection of Bothan pilot Asyr Sei'lar and the two were a couple for several years, despite disapproval from many Bothans, especially Bothan senator Borsk Fey'lya. He later married human female Sera Faleur, and, after the retirement of Rogue veterans Antilles and Tycho Celchu, became the commander of Rogue Squadron. He continues to lead the Rogues in their fight against the Yuuzhan Vong.

Dodonna, Jan

Star Wars character
Jan Dodonna
Species Human
Gender Male
Hair color White
Eye color Unknown
Home planet Corellia
Affiliation Rebel Alliance
Film portrayer Alex McCrindle

Jan Dodonna one of the first Generals in the Rebellion's military, appearing in A New Hope, played by Alex McCrindle. Like Han Solo, Dodonna was Corellian. He was a strategic master, who had served in the Old Republic. As the Republic became the Empire, Dodonna left, and joined the Rebellion only after the Emperor ordered a hit on him. When plans brought to him by Princess Leia and downloaded from R2-D2, Dodonna helped plan the attack on the Death Star. The data showed that the defenses of the Death Star were built around large scale attacks, he found that thermal exhaust ports on the station would be vulnerable to attack, and designed the starfighter attack that was successful in destroying the Death Star.

Dodonna was not seen in any later film. According to the Expanded Universe fiction, he was believed killed during the evacuation of Yavin, but in truth was captured by Imperial forces. He was eventually sent to Lusankya, where the Imperials were unable to turn him into a sleeper agent. Dodonna spent some years in Imperial captivity, but Rogue Squadron eventually freed all the Lusankya prisoners. From then on, Dodonna served on the New Republic council.

Behind-the-scenes information at www.starwars.com reveals that Dodonna's convoluted history was the result of unanticipated continuity errors: one Star Wars comic strip lists him as dead, but another, taking place some time later, depicts him alive and serving, and a roleplaying game sourcebook describes him as being captured at Yavin 4. Author Michael Stackpole managed to thread all three sources together via Lusankya.

Dreis, Garven

Star Wars character

Film portrayer Drewe Henley

Garven Dreis was the leader of X-Wing Red Squadron at the Battle of Yavin. While his wingmen were killed by Darth Vader, he took his shot at the Death Star thermal exhaust port. However, his proton torpedoes just missed it, instead causing damage to the internal corridor. His fighter was then damaged by Vader's TIE fighter. Dreis ordered Luke Skywalker to start his attack run. Dreis was then killed when his X-Wing crashed into the Death Star.

Dreis can be remembered for his line of "Almost there" before firing his proton torpedoes.

He was a valued member of Alliance High Command and was the strategist behind many of the battles won by the Rebellion against the Empire. He was often seen in the company of such head figures as Mon Mothma, Admiral Ackbar and General Madine. After temporarily retiring from the Alliance and working for Prince Xizor and the Black Sun, Hlaano was asked to return to help strategize the final battle against the Death Star. After the destruction of the second Death Star, Ralen Hlaano assisted Mon Mothma in reforming the central Galactic Government, and once again served as a respresentative from the planet Naboo in New Republic Senate.

He was regarded as the joker of the group. He later went on to found the volunteer Y-Wing squadron called the Taanab Yellow Aces, a tribute to the Tierfon Yellow Aces, the Squadron where he and fellow Red Squadron member Jek Porkins served in the early days of the Alliance.

Klivian, Hobbie

Hobbie Klivian
Species Human
Gender Male
Hair color Unknown
Eye color Unknown

Not much is known about his past before he served with Biggs Darklighter aboard the Rand Ecliptic and participated in a mass-defection that occurred in the months leading up to the Battle of Yavin. Hobbie was later assigned to Rogue Squadron as Rogue Four. It is interesting that he was assigned to such an elite squadron, due to his almost legendary knack for crashing. He was given the nickname of Bugbite by Iella Wessiri, a reference to their first meeting on Corellia where Hobbie was stung by a local insect.

Hobbie makes an appearance in The Empire Strikes Back as one of the pilots on Hoth. He was presumed killed by flying into General Veers' AT-AT, but both he and the general survived, though it cost Veers his legs.

Ors, Jan

Star Wars character

Jan Ors

Originating form Alderaan, her mother was a choreographer for Alderaan's premier ballet company and her father an aerospace engineer. Jan Ors learnt both arts from her parents. An Alliance operative, during a mission aboard the Star of Empire, Jan was captured. There she met Kyle Katarn who served as an Imperial Trooper, to whom she revealed that the Empire was responsible for the death of his father. She established a relationship with the already ambivalent Kyle until (when discovered and imprisoned) he agreed to defect and rescue her.

Jan Ors met with Mon Mothma and persuaded her to hire Kyle Katarn as a mercenary and commando. Jan accompanied Kyle, flying their ship, Moldy Crow. She became one of the few people Kyle trusted, and was also one of the few people he could count on to help him get out of sticky situations. During their adventures, Jan was captured by Jabba the Hutt and held as a bargaining chip against the Alliance, until she was again rescued by Kyle Katarn.

In Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, Jan accompanied again Kyle on their quest for the Valley of the Jedi but was also captured by Jerec. He asked from Kyle (who came very close to the Dark Side) to execute her. Following the Dark Side alternate scenario, Kyle kills her, but according to the canon, they both finished their adventure defeating Jerec and sealing the Valley.

In Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast Kyle returns to the mercenarism and Jan, who becomes Kyle's love interest and pilots the Raven's Claw. Then again, Jan is captured by Desann and Tavion, who pretends to kill her in order to call upon Kyle's hatred. Kyle was enough affected to her so that Desann's plan succeeded and Kyle returned to the Jedi in order to pursue revenge. The duo was eventually joined again, before Desann met his doom.

It is not known how their relation went after this, but probably Kyle gave it up for his service to the New Republic and the Jedi.

Jan's right hand is mechanical.

Porkins, Jek

Star Wars character

Jek Porkins flies an X-wing starfighter in A New Hope
Jek Porkins
Species Human
Gender Male
Hair color Black
Eye color Unknown
Home planet Bestine IV
Affiliation Rebel Alliance
Film portrayer William Hootkins

Pilot of Red 6 in the Battle of Yavin, Jek Porkins was the first rebel pilot to die in the battle. He got the nickname "Belly Runner" from his skill and his tubby gut. He also earned the nickname "Piggy," a name passed on to the Gamorrean pilot Vort SaBinring of Wraith Squadron. Jek, like so many others, gained experience flying in the cockpit of a T-16 Skyhopper.

He was a member of the Y-Wing Squadron, the Tierfon Yellow Aces, with Wes Janson. When Janson was down with an seemingly ill-timed case of Hesken Fever, Jek took his place in Red Squadron and transferred to Yavin 4, where he died due a mechanical failure. Jek's X-wing did not go through the last maintenance inspection before the battle. Porkins has sometimes been mistaken for Y-Wing pilot Davish 'Pops' Krail (Gold 5), who kept reminding Gold Leader to "STAY ON TARGET".

Ralter, Dak

Star Wars character
Dak Ralter
Species Human
Gender Male
Hair color Unknown
Eye color Unknown
Home planet Kalist VI

Dak Ralter served as Luke Skywalker's gunner during the Battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back. While battling AT-ATs in the snow battle phase, Dak sensed an emergency power failure and suggested to Luke he cut the ship to auxiliary power, but Luke told Dak to keep firing. The powerboard on Dak's side exploded, killing him instantly. So his inadvertent death could be attributed to Luke.

Salm, Horton

Star Wars character

Horton Salm as seen in comic book form
Horton Salm
Species Human
Gender Male
Hair color Black
Eye color Unknown
Home planet Unknown
Affiliation Rebel Alliance, New Republic
Film portrayer

While Horton Salm was a minor character in the movies, he made several appearances in Michael Stackpole's novels. Salm was a Y-Wing pilot in the Battle of Endor. He was forty years old at the time, and was leader of Aggressor squadron.

He is seen in the Return of the Jedi for a short time, in the cockpit of his Y-Wing during the battle for the second Death Star near the end of the movie. He survives the battle, and is eventually promoted to the rank of general.

In the X-Wing novels by Michael Stackpole, Horton Salm is in charge of Defender Squadron, though not as a pilot. By the time of the novels, Salm is far too old to fly in combat; even before the battle of Endor he was balding and into his forties. Salm knew that the battle of Endor would be his last, and succeeded in convincing the Rebel leadership to let him fly. Salm repeatedly runs into the members of Rogue Squadron, and he does not get along very well with X-Wing pilot Wedge Antilles, the squadron's leader.
