Welcome Home (Sanitarium)

Welcome Home (Sanitarium) is a song by Metallica. It was featured on the Master of Puppets album, and was inspired by the film One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.

Unlike its thrash follow-up in the album's running order, "Disposable Heroes", "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" begins as a slow lament driven by some of Hammet's most concise guitar playing of Metallica's career, then builds up to a liberated sound for the closing.

Keeping up with the theme of powerlessness of Master of Puppets, the lyrics portray one being trapped in insanity. Sleep my friend and you will see/The dream is my reality/They keep me locked up in this cage/Can't they see it's why my brain says "rage" and wanting to break free, No more can they keep us in/Listen damn it, we will win, and get there by what ever means, Mirror stares back hard/Kill, it's such a friendly word/Seems the only way/For reaching out again

All in all, it remains as one of metal's all time classics and a show case of Metallica's 20+ years in the genre.
