Wan Azizah Wan Ismail

Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (born 1952) is a Malaysian politician. She is the founder and the current president of Malaysian People's Justice Party. She is also wife of Malaysian former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, whom she married in 1980. As of 2004 they have six children: five daughters and one son.

She earned a degree from Ireland and became a ophthalmologist. She retired from her profession in 1993 when her husband was appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister.

She ran in the first election for the Permatang Pauh parlimentary seat in 1999, where she won against Dr Ibrahim Saad with a majority of 9077 votes. She retained that seat in next elections in 2004 after a recount.
