Walibi Belgium

Walibi Belgium, formerly known as Walibi Wavre and then Six Flags Belgium, is a Belgian theme park owned until 2004 by Six Flags, Inc, an American company, and now owned by Palamon Capital Partners. The park is located in Wavre, near Brussels.

The name Walibi comes from the combination of Wavre, Limal and Bièrges, three towns in the province of Walloon Brabant, in Wallonia.

History

In 1975, the park was founded by Eddy Meeùs and inaugurated under the name "Walibi Wavre". A decade later, in 1987, an aquatic theme park, Aqualibi, was inaugurated.

In 1998, the park was bought by Six Flags, Inc, and, in 2001, Walibi Wavre changed its name to Six Flags Belgium.

In 2004, the park was bought by Palamon Capital Partners, an English company.

On November 7, 2004, Six Flags Belgium was officially closed and will open again under the name "Walibi Belgium" on March 26, 2005.
