Walhalla, Victoria
Walhalla is a picturesque ex-mining town situated on a series of steep mountains. An ideal town for a camping holiday, Walhalla features many camping grounds and welcomes campers warmly. In fact, the only place where campers are not permitted is at or 50m in the vicinity of Stringers Creek, this is because the water in Stringers Creek is not fit for drinking.
The township features many mines and mineshafts and is ideal for hiking an exploring the mountainous terrain. There are no proper paths making hiking in the area difficult but all the more rewarding when you do find something. Situated just above the Walhalla camping ground is the famous Walhalla Cricket Grounds, it's a 45 minute hike, so you'd better bring all you need because a trip back to the camping ground is difficult.
