WSYX

WSYX is the ABC television affiliate in Columbus, Ohio. WSYX is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group and is the sister station to Fox affiliate WTTE.

Until the late 1980s, WSYX operated using the call letters WTVN-TV. The current WSYX is meant to convey the station's channel of operation: 6 = SIX ~ SYX.

The station currently broadcasts in stereo. WSYX-DT (WSYX's digital station) operates on channel 13. Its transmitter is located in Columbus, Ohio.

The station's combined newscast with sister station WTTE (Channel 28) is called "NewsCenter". On January, 11, 2004, the station made the decision to end sportscasts in the 6pm & 11pm shows, which led to some speculation that WSYX would do away entirely with its news department, instead going with Sinclair Broadcast Group's "NewsCentral" broadcast from Baltimore. However, WSYX/WTTE still localy produces 7 hours of news a day and sportscasts still apear in most of the newscasts.

The station has generally been in last place in the local news ratings wars, except for two periods that include 1977–1982 and 1988–1992. Despite that, the station has featured high profile Columbus anchors including Tom Ryan, Pat Lalama, A.J. Hudson, Lou Forrest (a.k.a Louis DeFlore on CNN Headline News), and Deborah Countiss. Liz Claman, now an anchor on CNBC, was a one time anchor on WSYX.
