Viking funeral

The Vikings often cremated their dead leaders inside their own warships, as a spectacular tribute. For this reason, a Viking funeral is often used as a humorous term to refer to the destruction of any mechanical object, especially a vehicle, by fire.

The Sutton Hoo ship burial was a variant on this type of funeral, in that the (unknown) leader was buried in the ground along with his ship.
