Venetian Snares

Aaron Funk aka Venetian Snares

Venetian Snares is the performing name of Aaron Funk, an electronic music producer and performer from Winnipeg, Manitoba, in Canada. He is known for making experimental IDM and breakcore in non-4/4 time signatures, and has released albums on the History of the Future, Isolate, Addict, Zod, Distort, Low-Res, Planet Mu, Sublight and Hymen record labels.

His 2003 album was entitled The Chocolate Wheelchair Album, and incorporates a number of samples, including the theme from Coronation Street (a popular British soap opera), Sesame Street, Doctor Who, and samples from the Disney film The Love Bug.

In 2004, he released a remix of the Boom Bip track The Unthinkable (feat. Buck65) on the album Corymb on Lex Records. That album also included remixes by Boards of Canada, Four Tet, and cLOUDDEAD.

Reactions to Aaron's music are diverse. It proves too intense for some, although many connect with his unique and innovative style. He is rapidly developing a cult-like following in the world electronic music scene.

Trivia

On the album Songs About My Cats, embedded within the last song (entitled Look) are several pictures af Aaron's cats. The images can be viewed directly with a spectrum analyzer; a capture of the embedded images, as well as similar images from Aphex Twin's music, are viewable here
