Vaqueiros de alzada

Vaqueiros de alzada were a northern Spanish nomadic people who practiced transhumance, the practice of moving seasonally with cattle. Specifically, they belonged to Asturias, Spain. Historically, they had been wrongly believed to be a separate ethnic group to the Spanish populace – this belief suggested that their ancestors were the Moorish soldiers defeated at the Battle of Covadonga in 722. The group have traditionally been ostracised by sections of the population of Spain.
