Vancouver-free

The title of this article is incorrect because of technical limitations. The correct title is #vancouver-free.

#vancouver-free is an IRC channel on the undernet.org chat network. It was started as a regional channel (for Vancouver, BC residents) who where tired of what they perceived were restrictive rules on #vancouver. It is a rules free access for all anything goes channel.

Due to the lack of rules (nothing is forbidden or disallowed), everyone is welcome to join, it is now "irc home" to people from all over the world, including several american states, the Philippines, Norway, Australia and Romania!

It is now home to a rather active chat and the primary home of the "gir bot".

Philosophy behind the channel

The channel was started as a safe haven from rules and regulations that are genereally found on all undernet channels. Most notable is the people are free to say anything they wish and act how they feel. Everyone gets ops upon entering the channel.

The Gir Bot The Gir Bot is named after Invader Zim's Robot gir.

The gir bot is a perl bot that has been heavilly modded. It many functions. It's primary ones are listed here:

• Logging, It logs all chat and produces viewable logs at [www.vancouverirc.com www.vancouverirc.com].
• Quoting. If you type !quote nickname it will give you a random quote from said person.
• Info bot. This is one of the favorite features of the bot. if you !set keyword something or other. It will remember the set and be later retreived with an !ask. To date there are over 10,000 !sets ranging from ASL to zoloft.
• 8Ball. Typical 8ball answers etc.
• Roll. Rolls dice. Example: !roll 2d8

There are many other functions available and many are added each month depending on requests or donations of code.
