Uxbridge Road tube station
Uxbridge Road was a station of the Metropolitan Line of the London Underground, on a branch which is now closed.
Although Kensington (Olympia) is now only situated on a short branch of the District Line, there was a Metropolitan Line service until 1940 which followed the mainline tracks northwards and joined the Metropolitan branch to Hammersmith (today's Hammersmith & City Line) just south of Latimer Road station. On this short Met stretch Uxbridge Road station was situated, just a short walk from the current location of White City on the Central Line.
Although most services of both the District and the Metropolitan Lines terminated at Kensington (Olympia), there were some services running through all the way from Latimer Road to Earl's Court, thus forming the so-called Outer Circle.
Uxbridge Road station was closed along with the rest of the branch on September 20, 1940, although it was still printed on 1947 tube maps.
Little remains of the station can be found today as a new road has been built on its site. The whole branch has vanished.
