History
The regiment has its origins in the fänikor raised in the 1500s. In 1617, these smaller units where organized into the Uplandia Grand Regiment, and in 1623, this grand regiment was spilt into three regiments, one of those being the Uplandia Regiment. The regiment's soldiers were conscripted from the province of Uplandia. It was one of the original 20 Swedish infantry regiments mentioned in the Swedish constitution of 1634.
The regiment's first commander was Nils Brahe. Uplandia Regiment was tenemented in 1682. It was given the designation I 8 (8th Infantry Regiment) after a general order in 1816. It was called Uplandia Infantry Regiment between 1904 and 1928 to distinguish it from the Uplandia Artillery Regiment. The regiment was garrisoned in Uppsala and was disbanded in 1957.
