Unblack Metal
Unblack Metal, also called "Holy Unblack Metal" or "Christian Black Metal" (CBM) is a style of music derived from and similar to Black Metal music in nearly all ways, except that it is patently anti-satanic, usually Christian & espouses holiness, moralism, etc. It is seen by some as oxymoronic because it uses dark symbolism, affrontrous stage behaviour, and the very content which was in the first place adopted by Black Metal for the reason that it was thought to alienate the sensibilities of such convictions held in family values & social philanthropy, etc. However, the vast majority of Black Metal bands, fans and particularly the Metal D.J. and reviewer Spinoza Ray Prozak, who has written a couple of essays on the topic on his website, condemning CBM, consider Christian involvement in metal as unacceptable, explaining successfully that "Metal is a romanticist movement which was inspired by the classical era of European humanity, including as part of its view many Romantic philosophical ideals which are pre-Christian in their derivation and anti-Christian in their values." He goes on to say "Some thoughts on art: first, art seeks to communicate. Second, it does not communicate through speaking a predetermined truth, but lures the user toward finding his or her own conclusions through presentation of metaphor, or situations which mirror life in the abstract through pattern similarities. These scenarios, presented in much the same way that we live, provide a space for contemplation of value as it exists through motivation and decision, rather than through acceptance of an external standard to which all internal thought is conformed." Even with many Christian bands attempting to gain a foothold in the genre, the genre still remains deeply anti-Christian.
