U.S. Highway 5
United States Highway 5 is a north-south United States highway. Although the "5" in its route number would suggest a border-to-border route, US 5 only traverses three New England states between Canada and the Atlantic Ocean. The "grand American route" honors went instead to the fabled US 1.

Termini
As of 2004, the highway's northern terminus is in Derby Line, Vermont at the Canadian border, where it continues as Provincial Highway 143. Its southern terminus is in New Haven, Connecticut at an intersection with Interstate 91. In fact, the entire route of US 5 closely parallels Interstate 91, whose northern terminus is also Derby Line (where it cointinues as Quebec Autoroute 55).
