Ty the Tasmanian Tiger is a video game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube produced by Krome Studios in 2002. In the game you are a thylacine who must collect talismans to free your family from the Dreamtime, where they have been imprisoned by the evil Boss Cass. In 2004 a sequel was released on all the above platforms, in addition to GameBoy Advance. Also in 2004, DPS Film Roman and Krome Studios announced they would produce an animated cartoon series based on the game.
In May 2005, Activision and Krome Studios announced a co-publishing agreement for the third installment of the series.
Characters
- Ty the Tasmanian Tiger- An endangered species who lives in the wild Austrailian outback. He must find thunder eggs to find the 5 mystic talismans and then will free his family from the dreamtime realm.
- Maurie – Maurie the sulfur-crested cockatoo is your helper and friend. He teaches Ty new controls and abillities as well as telling him where to find things.
- Boss Cass – This evil genius wants world domination and Ty is the only guy who can stop him.
- Julius – Julius the koala is the greatest inventor in the world. He hooks you up with the talisman portals, and if you collect golden cogs, he'll give you some awsome techno rangs.
- Shazza – Shazza the dingo is Ty's friend, and always seems to get into trouble.
- Ranger Ken – Ken is the local, friendly woods patroller. He will talk to you and have a few challenges also.
- Rex – Rex the platypus is the master at swimming. He teaches Ty how to swim, gives him the aquarangs, and has time-attack challenges.
- Elle – Rex's wife; she enjoys finding treasure with Rex and gets lost a lot.
- Dennis – Dennis the green tree frog is the one of the biggest thunder egg collectors in the area. Don't miss an opportunity to do chores for them. His main drawback is that he's a scardicat.
- Neddy – The biggest bully in the Black Stump. Go behind him and shoot the leather straps holding his armor on with the flamerang to defeat him.
- Lenny the Lyrebird – Blue bird who, well, lies. Don't do what he says. There is always an alternate way around the obstacle he points out. If he says not to do something, do it!
- Sly – The only other tasmanian tiger. He is Ty's brother. At first, he's on Boss Cass's side, but at the end, he becomes good.
- Bunyip Elder – This spirit guy tells Ty about Cass's plans and tells him how to win the fight.
- Sheila – Another koala. Her kids always get lost and you have to find all 8 of them!
- Boonie – One of Sheila's kids. he gets in trouble, and guess who has to sort it out?
