Inside candy

TWIX® is a candy bar made by Mars, Inc. consisting of a cookie centre topped with caramel and coated in milk chocolate. Being somewhat smaller in cross section than other candy bars, TWIX are typically packaged in pairs. Twix was introduced in 1979.

TWIX was called Raider in Austria, France, Germany, Sweden, Portugal, Finland and the Netherlands for many years before its name was changed in 1991 to match the international brand name. This name change was met with scorn in Germany. The slogan Raider heißt jetzt TWIX, ... sonst ändert sich nix ("Raider is now called TWIX, ... nothing else changes") has become a metaphor for botched attempts to make something look more modern by giving it a new, cool name.

Flavor and Product Variants

'Peanut Butter' TWIX is also available with peanut butter replacing the caramel. Starting in 2005, Dark Chocolate TWIX became available, with a dark chocolate coating instead of milk chocolate. Discontinued special flavors include 'Double Fudge' and 'Cookies n Cream.'

TWIX products are also available as ice cream, including TWIX Brand Ice Cream Bars, TWIX Brand Ice Cream, and TWIX Brand Peanut Butter Ice Cream.

Cultural reference

TWIX featured prominently in the plot of an episode of Seinfeld. A hungry George attempts to get Twix from a vending machine. When the machine fails to dispense it, George goes in search of a manager. He returns to find that someone else has eaten the TWIX, leading him to stage an elaborate logical trap with the hope of extracting a confession and some replacement TWIX. When that, too, fails, George looks skyward and yells "TWIX!"
