Tver (Russian: Тверь), formerly (1931-1990) Kalinin (Калинин) after Mikhail Kalinin, is a city in Russia, center of Tver Oblast (region). It is located at 56°52′ N 35°55′ E Stands at the confluence of Volga and Tvertsa rivers. The first written record of Tver is dated 1164.
As of 2003, it has a population of 453,000.
Most notable industry is the railroad cars plant (built 1898).
