Tri-Ace
- The title of this article is incorrect because of technical limitations. The correct title is tri-Ace.
Formed in 1995 by Jun Asanuma and Yoshiharu Gotanda, tri-Ace is a Japanese video game developer. Currently their games are published by Square Enix (originally Enix). The group exclusively makes computer RPGs, and is known for giving their games action-packed battle systems and deep skill systems. They have made the Star Ocean series and the game Valkyrie Profile. Their most recent release (as of April 2005) is Radiata Stories, slated to be published in the USA by Square Enix in October 2005.
The founders of tri-Ace originally worked for Namco's Wolf Team, and had created Tales of Phantasia, a game which in several ways is a precursor to the Star Ocean games; i.e. an action battle system where the player controls one character and AI controls others in the party and special battle skills that the player can assign to different buttons.
Trivia
tri-Ace is known for taking characters from one game and placing them as optional, extremely difficult enemies in another, usually as part of bonus dungeons or other omake. Star Ocean: Till the End of Time features Lenneth Valkyrie and Freya from Valkyrie Profile as optional bosses; Radiata Stories features Valkyrie again, as well as Lezard Valeth. The optional enemies Gabriel Celeste and Iselia Queen (sometimes localized as 'Ethereal Queen') are also present in most tri-Ace titles, and are usually the most powerful and difficult foes in the entire game.
