Total Annihilation: Core Contingency - Krogoth
Total Annihilation: Core Contingency – Krogoth
The Krogoth is a playable unit from the expansion pack for the original Total Annihilation game. It is widely credited as the most powerful ground unit in the game.
All players of Total Annihilation know undoubtedly of its expansion pack, the Core Contingency, and even more so know of the staggering number of extra units it added to the game. One such unit was the Krogoth; a unit exclusive to the Core, fabricated to ensure the Arm's destruction.
The Krogoth itself is an upright KBOT, walks on two legs and carries back-mounted missile launchers. It is most certainly one of the most powerful units in the game, especially for one that is mobile. Its main weapon, is a massive laser cannon mounted on the head of the Krogoth itself. This laser can fire every 4 seconds, and is most notably similar to the same weapon on the Core's Doomsday Machine and the Arm's Annihilator gun.
In game, the Krogoth is actually quite huge, it has the largest footprint for a KBOT (with the exception for a few other 3rd party units) and is heavily armoured. Approximately 4 nuclear missiles are required to take it down. The Krogoth also requires an enourmous amount of resources to construct, approximately 19900 metal and more than 120000 energy. And of course, its build time is more than enough to befit this monstrous machine.
Strategy concerning the Krogoth is pretty much absent right now, since its so destructive and so powerful, you simply need to just walk the Krogoth into an enemy base and have the +shootall command activated. Some may argue to differ, but despite the Krogoth being very fun to use, it can spoil the game if you have more than one.
The Krogoth made its debut in a bonus mission in the Core Contingency designated "Krogoth Encounter", which at first glance seems quite impossible, but after you have finished the Campaigns a few times, it is more than doable. Even though the Krogoth debuts in a mission set before the Core Contingency, you still can construct one in the last mission in the Core Contingency Campaign (playing on the Core side of the campaign of course).
The Krogoth set the standard for destruction in TA:CC and now has become almost overshadowed by other 3rd party units, such as the Orcone, Karganeth and the Kryptor, which is a 3rd party version of the Arm's counter to the Krogoth.
