Tokyo DisneySea
Tokyo DisneySea is a theme park, opened on September 4, 2001. It is one of two theme parks at the Tokyo Disney Resort located in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan, just outside of Tokyo.
The park's two symbols are the AquaSphere – a water fountain with a large model of the earth – near the entrance, and the gigantic volcano, Mount Prometheus, located in the center of the park. The volcano and Cinderella Castle in Tokyo Disneyland, the other park in the resort, are just the same height. The name is a play on Tokyo Disneyland, hence the official name of Tokyo DisneySea.
The park consists of seven themed areas:
- Mediterranean Harbor
- American Waterfront
- Lost River Delta
- Port Discovery
- Mermaid Lagoon
- Arabian Coast
- Mysterious Island
Some of its most popular attractions that use the FASTPASS system include "Journey to the Center of the Earth," "Indiana Jones: Temple of the Crystal Skull," "Storm Rider," "Mermaid Lagoon Theatre," and "The Magic Lamp Theatre."
Compared to Tokyo Disneyland park, Tokyo DisneySea is targeted to older guests. Many moderate to expensive restaurants that serve alcoholic beverages are within the park. Hotel MiraCosta, Tokyo Disneysea's official hotel, is connected to the park.
The idea of Tokyo DisneySea came from a waterfront theme park to be built in Long Beach in California, but the idea was scrapped and passed on to the Oriental Land Company where it was greatly elaborated.
