Intratec TEC-DC9

(Redirected from Tec-9)

The Intratec TEC-DC9 is a blow-back operated, semi-automatic 9mm Parabellum caliber firearm, classified by BATF as a handgun. It is made of inexpensive molded polymer and stamped steel parts. 32 round magazines are available. Once widely available in the US, the US Government has made many efforts to ban this weapon, which has been described as inadequate for anything other than drive-bys, school shootings, and hold-ups. It has never been used by the US Military or law enforcement agencies, barring undercover operations. It has never had a production full-automatic or selective-fire variant.

The TEC-9 is inherently inaccurate due to poor internal parts tolerances, crude sights, poor balance and less than ergonomic design. It is unreliable unless proper full metal jacket bullets are used. It has been made with a threaded barrel for attachment of a suppressor or flash suppresor to permit night-time shooting. Intratec has re-released it under various names — the AB-10, KG-9, the KG-99, the TEC-9. The basic design of the weapon however, has remained virtually unchanged, though the government's efforts have made the gun harder to find and more expensive to purchase. The gun originally sold for around $200 USD.
