Te Wahipounamu

Known to Māori as Te Wāhipounamu (the place of greenstone), the South West New Zealand World Heritage site incorporates:

The total area covers 26,000 km2. It was created in 1990.

Note: Do not confuse the term Te Wāhipounamu with Te Waipounamu (trans. "the waters of greenstone"), a traditional name for the South Island of New Zealand.
