Communist Party of Sweden (SKP)

Sveriges Kommunistiska Parti (Communist Party of Sweden) is a name used by several different political organizations in Sweden.

Between 1921 and 1967 it was the name of the party today known as Vänsterpartiet.

In 1924 the SKP leader Zeth Höglund split, forming his own SKP (which later merged with the social democrats).

In 1929 the majority of SKP were expelled from the Communist International, forming their own parallel SKP. This party, led by Karl Kihlbom and Nils Flyg evolved into Socialistiska Partiet in 1934.

In 1973 KFML took the name SKP, and used that name until 1987.

When Arbetarpartiet Kommunisterna went bankrupt in 1995, they reorganized themselves under the name SKP.

At the time of dissolution of APK, at least one group (perhaps two) left creating parallel SKPs. One group was led by APK veteran John Takman. One of these was able to get the official registration of the party name. This group is however, not active.
