Super League
Super League, pertaining to the sport of rugby league, has two slightly different meanings in Australasia and Europe.
- In Australasia it refers to the short-lived competition set up in the late 1990s as a competitor to the Australian Rugby League. The battle between the two was intense, though eventually they merged to form the National Rugby League. See Super League war for more details.
- In Europe a competition was set up as a sister competition to the Australasian one. This was done with the agreement of the Rugby Football League (though not without much controversy), and continues to exist as the major rugby league competition in the northern hemisphere. See Super League (Europe) for more details.
