Student exchange

Student exchanges, youth exchanges or high school student exchanges are applied to the age approximately group of 15 to 19 of predominantly secondary education students, and refers to extended stays of students of one country with families in another country, often under the supervision of organizations like Youth for Understanding, American Field Service or Rotary International with its Rotary Youth Exchange program. Students typically attend standard high schools within their host country are during these stays.

Such exchanges schemes have become popular after World War II and aim, according to their organizers, at developing a better understanding and tolerance between the cultures and countries of the world. It has been suggested that soome recent studies show that this effect can be proven.
