Sturmgeschütz IV

(Redirected from StuG IV)

The Sturmgeschütz IV (SdKfz 167) was a slightly modified Sturmgeschütz III assault gun superstructure mounted on a Panzer IV chassis. Around 1100 were built starting in 1943.

The StuG IV was known as a very effective tank killer, especially on the Eastern Front.

The vehicle was produced by Krupp due to the need for more assault guns. The reason for using the Pz. IV chassis was that Krupp didn't produce the Pz III.

It had a 4 man crew, and was issued mainly to infantry divisions.
