Statistics Canada
Statistics Canada is the Canadian federal government bureau commissioned with gathering and analysing statistics about Canada. The bureau is commonly called StatCan.
Statistics is a federal responsibility in Canada and StatCan produces statistics for all the provinces as well as the federal government.
Among other responsibilities, StatCan undertakes a country-wide census every five years on the first and sixth year of each decade. The last Canadian census was in 2001; the next one will be in 2006 and will be the first census ever to use the internet for questionnaires.
