St. Cedd's College, Cambridge

(Redirected from St. Cedd's College)

St. Cedd's College is a fictional college of Cambridge University created by Douglas Adams. It appears in the Doctor Who serial Shada, and in the novel Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.

It is the home of Professor Chronotis, a retired time traveller who appears in Adams' fiction, and – in the fictional universe – was also the college of Isaac Newton and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. It was named, of course, after St. Cedd, brother of St Chad, whom Gently describes as "one of the duller Northumbrian saints."

It is based somewhat on Adams's own college, St. John's. For Shada, scenes at St. Cedd's were filmed on location at Emmanuel College.
