Somesongs
Overview
Somesongs, according to its FAQ, is "a directory of online music"[1]. Musicians post links to their songs, which are rated and reviewed by a community of their peers. The procedure is simple: registered artists upload songs to a personal webspace and add a link to the Somesongs database (notes and lyrics can be added to a song, optionally). Many members are also active musicians in the Song Fight! community, as well as capable producers. Many different genres are represented, from nerdcore to electronica to simple rock and roll.
Rating System
After a song is posted, registered users can rate a song as 'good' (equal to a 10), 'okay' (equal to 5), or 'bad' (0). After a song has been rated by five or more users, an average rating is calculated. Songs usually do not sustain a high rating: as of April 15, 2005, out of 1812 songs, only 11% are rated as 8 or above, and only seven songs are rated 9 or above. This is indicative of the standards of the community; one must have displayed significant talent or potential.
