Social Credit-National Unity

Social Credit-National Unity was the label used by Harry Watson Arnold when he ran in the 1940 Canadian election in the riding of Saskatoon City. Arnold had been a Social Credit candidate in the 1935 Canadian election.

While, in 1940, most Social Credit candidates ran under the name New Democracy, Watson used the Social Credit-National Unity label. It is unclear if this is simply because he disagreed with the New Democracy platform, or because he was a supporter of both the social credit philosophy and the fascist National Unity Party of Adrien Arcand. (Social Credit has been accused of anti-Semitism, particularly in the 1930s and 1940s.) It is also unclear whether Social Credit considered Arnold an official candidate.

Arnold won 241 votes, about 1.1% of the total.
