Slug (rapper)

Slug

Slug (real name Sean Daley) is the frontman for the successful underground hip-hop group Atmosphere.

In Minnesota, his home state, Slug's conscious rap has gained a large following. Slug also runs the Minneapolis hip-hop label Rhymesayers Entertainment and fronts the hip-hop crew based around that label, The Rhymesayers.

At first, Atmosphere was a hip-hop trio fronted by Spawn (a.k.a. Rek the Heavyweight), with Slug as the DJ and Ant as the producer. As the group was releasing Overcast, Spawn departed with Slug taking over the lead. Following the release, Slug and Ant continued on, releasing the Lucy Ford: The Atmosphere EPs, a collection of songs from two records, and dedicated to the long-running theme of his on-again off-again girlfriend Lucy.

In 2002, Atmosphere released God Loves Ugly on the Rhymesayers label. Sales of the disc received national attention, if not airplay, and Atmosphere signed a deal with Epitaph Records, an established punk label, to release their record Seven's Travels in 2003.

Atmosphere's fifth release, in 2005, was Headshots: Se7en, a collection of 22 songs produced from 1997 through 1999 and originally issued in tape format only. Slug has also released an album with Murs (from hip-hop collective Living Legends) named Felt. Slug and Murs will be releasing Felt 2 in the summer of 2005.

Atmosphere is expected to release a follow-up to Seven's Travels in the fall of 2005.
