Siddha

Siddha is a form of medical treatment of curing diseases using herbs. This form of medicine was professed and practised by Siddhars. Siddha medicine was developed by Dravidians (ancient Tamils). Preparations were made out of the parts of the plants and trees such as leaves, bark, stem, root etc. It is said that one can get complete cure without any side effects of the treatment. This form of medicine is well known in South India. The use of precious metals like gold and silver power in some preparations is unique to siddha, claiming it has properties to heal stubborn diseases.

Siddha is also a sanskrit word referring to "Perfection", usually spiritual perfection or enlightenment. As a noun, the word refers to a person who has realised the goal of spiritual practice and become a perfected being. Example of use, "Swamiji has become a great Siddha."
