Shuttle-PB Mk3 (PTV-3) is a futuristic, agile single-seater featured in Orbiter space flight simulator (a closed source, freeware simulator by Martin Schweiger). It was designed by Toni "Tylisirn" Ylisirniö as an improved version of the standard-issue Shuttle-PB.
Similarily to its original, thanks to the technologies beyond the reach of the modern aerospace industry the Shuttle's propolusion system has a very low fuel consumption (or high specific impulse) that allows it to reach LEO or low Mars orbit.
The Shuttle was designed primarily for low gravity/low atmoshperic density environments. Although aerodynamically-shaped it generates little lift during the atmospheric flight so its handling qualities are more similar to those of Shuttle-A rather than Delta-glider. However it is spacecraft of choice for those novice Orbiteers on their first jaunts from Martian bases. Due to its low maximum delta-v it may reach LEO with the help of launcher (e.g. Ariane 4 LRB) or purposedely-built booster launched from the mobile launch truck.
Shuttle-PB Mk3 is distributed as a stand-alone Orbiter (sim) add-on that is available at Orbiter (sim) repositories.
Features and Capablities
Shuttle-PB Mk3 is not capable of horizontal take-off and landing. Aerodynamic control surfaces are not supported in the latest version.
Attitude control is performed via the RCS.
Latest release
The current version (as of early 2005) features:
- overall design and textures
- configuration and animation
