Shockwave (Transformers)

Shockwave
Gun Mode

Shockwave (Japanese: Laserwave) is a Decepticon in the fictional Transformers Universe.

Shockwave in Generation One

In the cartoon, he is a Decepticon who reports directly to Megatron. A cold, callous Transformer with an extremely logical mind, he is responsible for unethical experiments on transformers, both friend and foe. He was chosen by Megatron to govern Cybertron in his absence.

In the comic, he has the same devotion to logic, but his comic logic brings him to different conclusions than in the cartoon. In the comic he is openly disloyal to Megatron and takes leadership over the Decepticons at least twice.

Physically, G1 Shockwave is an imposing purple robot with a single eye and a blaster for a hand. He is powered by a nuclear reactor in his chest which gives him significantly enhanced power in his weapon mode, a giant space gun.

Shockwave in Energon

Shockwave was absent from Transformers continuity until Transformers: Energon, where his likeness and named were paid homage to by the character Shockblast (Laserwave in Japan, like the original Shockwave). Aside from physical appearances, resemblances to the G1 shockwave are minimal – his personality is very self-centered, and he has a massive ego.

The most deadliest of the Deceptions, Shockblast was sent to Cybertron's jail. When the Decepticons on Cybertron saw Megatron, he order them to break Shockblast out. But when he was busted out, he not only killed various Autobots, but various Deceptions as well. He joined Megatron's group, but he had his own plans. He tried to asorb the power of Unicron, but ended up possessed by him until Optimus Supreme freed him from the god's control, only to be crushd by Unicron's fist. He has a younger brother named Sixshot.

  • Note that in the Japanese translation of Energon (Superlink), the character known to US Audiences as "Tidal Wave" is "Shockwave" and the character that resembles the G1 Shockwave is known as Shockblast (E) or Laserwave (J).

He was voiced by Brian Drummond(US) & Nobutoshi Kanna (Japan).
