SRAM (bicycles)
SRAM Corporation is a bicycle component manufacturer based in Chicago, Illinois, incorporating the former firms of Fichtel and Sachs, Sachs-Huret and Rock Shox. Their bicycle chains are widely used by cyclists, even those not using any other SRAM componentry on their machine. They also produce a full range of mountain bike components, although these cater to a relatively niche market compared to Shimano, the market leader.
SRAM chains are often called "Sedis" or "Sedisport" which was the original name given to the bushingless design by Sachs-Huret. These chains have greater flexibility than traditional chains with full-width bushings and are essential for the operation of modern derailleur gear systems. SRAM more recently introduced the "Powerlink", a tool-free master link for derailleur gear chains. This has been adopted by many cyclists, even for use with other manufacturers' chains (which is unsurprisingly not recommended by SRAM).
There does not appear to be any agreed convention on how "SRAM" should be pronounced.
