Ryan Mitchell
Ryan Mitchell is a fictional character in the Power Rangers universe, appearing in the television series Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue.
When Ryan was very young, he was involved in an accident along with his father, Captain Mitchell, and his sister, Dana, and all three were suspended over a cliff. Whereas Captain Mitchell had managed to secure himself and Dana, albeit until they could be rescued, Ryan surely would have plummeted to his death had the spirit of Diabolico not appeared to Captain Mitchell and offered a deal. Diabolico would take the child, but in payment he would raise the child himself, and Captain Mitchell would never see him again. Captain Mitchell at first refused, but relented when Ryan began to fall. It was, as he has said, the hardest decision he had ever made.
Ryan was thus raised by the demon Diabolico, and taught that his father had rejected him, favouring Dana. Diabolico stole the prototype Titanium Morpher from the Lightspeed Base and gave it to Ryan, under the instruction that he was to destroy the other Power Rangers (including his sister Dana) with it. He nearly succeeded, until the truth finally came out and he rejected Diabolico.
Ryan is notable, in that he is the first Power Ranger in the history of the series that was created specially for the show, and not transferred over from the corresponding series of Super Sentai. Certain elements and even villains had been created before, usually with the intention of being used as merchandising material, but never a new Ranger. Producers presumably saw the opportunity when only five Rangers appeared in the original Sentai, and there had been six in most previous seasons.
