Ruse (also spelled Rousse; Turkish: Ruschuk or Rusçuk) is the fifth largest city in Bulgaria. It is a major cultural center and the largest Bulgarian port on the Danube. It is also situated on the border with Romania.
One of Ruse's claims to fame is that it is the birthplace of 1981 Nobel Prize for Literature winner Elias Canetti. In Ruse there is a television tower with an observation deck, the Rousse TV Tower.
