Run & Shoot
The Run & Shoot offense is a type of offense in American Football which is predicated around the concept of multiple wide-receiver sets and lots of adjustments depending upon what the defense presents.
Pioneered by coach Tiger Ellison in the late 1950s the offense has evolved over the years into the fast-paced passing game that we see today. While it enjoyed a brief surge in popularity with National Football League teams in the 1990s today it is primarily practiced at the high school and college level.
Formations and Motion
The Run & Shoot uses multiple formations, typically featuring at least 4 wide receivers. Motion — having a receiver run left or right parallel to the line of scrimmage just prior to the snap — is used extensively both to create favorable matchups for the receivers and also to help reveal what coverage the defense is employing.
